Biography
I'm a 1.5 generation migrant and feminist born in northern China and grew up in Aotearoa New Zealand. I recently completed my PhD in Gender, Feminist, and Women's Studies at York University under the supervision and guidance of Professor Enakshi Dua, Professor Bonita Lawrence, and Professor Mona Oikawa. My PhD project explored diasporic Chinese solidarity with Indigenous movements in Aotearoa New Zealand and so-called Canada and the potentials of transnational knowledge-sharing and relationship-building towards decolonization. This has been inspired by the stories of M膩ori-Chinese solidarity shared by the late Dr. Moana Jackson, and informed by my involvement in Asians Supporting Tino Rangatiratanga, a grassroots organisation that formed from relationships with M膩ori activists and Asian feminist/queer networks and community-building. During my 20s, I was a youth worker doing domestic violence prevention and intervention work with migrant and refugee youth. My MA research was focused on structure violence in the lifeworlds of Asian youth survivors of domestic or family violence. I am also an illustrator, comic artist, and tattoo artist.
